Harold Stonehouse is NESTA's founder / 1st Executive Advisor; & founder of now defunct California ESTA.  He dedicated his life towards advocacy of ES & formation of our prominent organization

Awardees are called to the same dedication of duty towards ES advocacy, for which there are many forms

Guidelines

  • NESTA Member prior to application
  • Educational-content promoting ESS
  • Applicants explain how proposed project addresses State / NGSS Standards
  • Awardees expected to share outcome with educators:
    1. Write article about project for The Earth Scientist
    2. Present project at State / National science teachers conference

Information for all Applicants

  • (2) grants awarded per year
  • Grant applications reviewed / awarded on competitive basis  (Additional grants awarded at discretion of Review Committee, comprised of members of NESTA Board of Directors)
  • Applications reviewed / awards announced annually.
  • Interdisciplinary or team teaching projects
  • Mandatory contentESS emphasis
  • Activities not currently supported by existing funds / not part of school district's responsibilityStipends / transportation not funded— Ideally, something  once purchased, reused each year
  • Funds must play key role in success of program & cannot exceed $500
  • Submit application electronically with letter of support from principalscanned / sent via e-mail attachment
  • Awards made directly to applicants. Grant funds expended within school year application approved
  • Record keeping / reporting instructions accompany check
  • Awardees responsible submitting final progress / expense report packet
