Hands-On Science with DIYnamics
WedNESDAY, 11 MArch  at 7:00 – 8:00 pm Eastern Time

Our team will present DIYnamics strategies in three facets. First, Jordyn will present two DIYnamics experimental movies to demonstrate the breadth of the DIYnamics Kits capabilities. Then Bill will show how the kit is built, by building one in real time. Lastly, Jon will carry out an atmospheric river experiment also in real time.

Presenters - Jon Aurnau, Bill Church and Jordyn Moscoso

Jon Aurnou is Professor of Geophysics at UCLA, with research expertise in geophysical fluid dynamics and an abiding love of hands-on fluids demonstrations to engage learners at all levels.

Bill Church joined the DIYnamics Team in 2021.  His dual masters in educational robotics and science education have made him the ideal team member for optimizing the designs of the DIYnamics hardware kits.  His latest designs use less parts, can be put together faster, and are far more mechanically robust than our original designs.  Bill continues to lead the charge in refining and maximizing what can be done with our tabletop planetary atmospheres kits.

Jordyn Moscoso has been an integral member of the DIYnamics group since 2017, and a co-director since 2021. She led the effort in the AOS department at UCLA to build the DIYnamics experiments into undergraduate curriculum, and created videos explaining experiments that are still used today. She co-organized and co-led the DIYnamics Workshop at Earth Educators Rendezvous in 2022, and was the primary leader 2023. She currently is an environmental scientist and biogeochemical modeler at the San Francisco Estuary Institute.
