Kelvin-Helmholtz Clouds
A cloud displaying Kelvin-Helmholtz billows, taken the morning of 9 February, 2003, in Gunbarrel near Boulder, Colorado. The characteristic overturning wave appearance of these clouds is caused by the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, which can occur when velocity shear is present.
